Abstract
The incidents of COVID-19 pandemic saw a rise of racist harassment, violence, discrimination, vandalism, and stigmatization against Asians across the United States and the world. This paper investigates anti-Asian incidents of harassment experienced by Asians living in the United States largest cities. To study the question, this project analyzes news media reports in 2020 of incidents of anti-Asian racism and harassment experiences in 4 of the largest cities of the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Huston. This paper tentatively argues that Asian American people experienced higher level verbal harassment than any other type of harassment, but the problem was experienced all by cities and that peaked at the earliest period of the pandemic. This project contributes to the scholarly literature, by understanding the problems occurring in different regions in the United States and how it is placed in the city with a very high percentage of Asian Americans of different ethnic backgrounds.
