Abstract
According to the Passport to Whole Health from the Department of Veteran Affairs, there are eight areas of health: Moving the Body, Surroundings, Personal Development, Food & Drink, Recharge, Family/Friends/Co-Workers, Spirit & Soul, and Power of the Mind. Our project created and analzyed a survey about whole health practices for students, veterans, and healthcare workers across the country. We used Qualitrics to create and distribute the survey and SPSS to determine trends in the data. The results concluded that more education is needed across the eight areas of whole health. Many of the areas of health are not taught in school, and therefore, people are not immersed in them growing up. To help increase confidence in personal health, I am working with a group of three other students toam develop a Whole Health Awareness and Community Knowledge Symposium (WHACKS) for students and staff of the University of Michigan for the fall of 2023. This event will highlight guest speakers focusing on ways to improve mental, physical, and emotional health. Between speaker sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities relating to health and wellness. These activities may include mediation sessions or mindfulness jar making. The goal of the conference is to educate students and faculty about the eight areas of wellness, why it is important to take care of themselves, and tips to maximize health.
