Abstract

Objective: To assess the associations between all climate change-related exposures and low birthweight and preterm birth. This review will add to the literature by focusing on literature that examines effect modifiers of the relationship between climate change related-exposures and low birthweight and preterm birth, presenting the results of all research by the income classification of the country, and presenting the results by trimester of pregnancy Introduction: The global repercussions of climate change affect various populations disparately, rendering certain groups more susceptible and prone to its effects. The primary objective of this project was to investigate the extent of existing research on the associations between exposure to extreme climate events (e.g., heatwaves, natural disasters, temperature fluctuations, precipitation variations) and low birth weight and preterm birth. Methods: We utilized Rayyan technologies to screen article abstracts, assessing their alignment with our exposure and outcome measures. We then completed a literature review to assess whether these articles contained the specific data points we were seeking. Results: TBD Conclusion: This data will assist public health practitioners, physicians, governments, and communities in providing targeted recommendations and tailoring interventions that will specifically address the climate change-related exposures, trimesters, and sub-populations most at risk.
