Abstract
The topic of the research that me and my UROP group are currently working on is surrounding dementia care and how it can be improved in the United States and other countries. This semester I have taken up a more specific project with two other students on comparing traditional medicare with Medicare Advantage. We are trying to make sure that patients who struggle from dementia get the healthcare that they need. A lot of healthcare plans have some holes that make things difficult for those who struggle from Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Our job is to find discrepancies and reasons why these patients are not getting the care they need. The methodologies we use are simply literary analysis and discussion. I simply read the literature given to me and take notes based on how it impacts our research. I then use my notes to make a presentation which I use to discuss my findings in a group setting. I hope to find some solutions to the problems that dementia patients are facing with poor treatment plans. I hypothesize my group and I will be able to find some discrepancies and hopefully we can publish our findings. Our main conclusion is findings generally indicate the treatment plan problems generally stem from irregular situations that caregivers and medical specialists are not used to dealing with. Whether it is homecare or general neglect. Sometimes dementia and Alzheimer’s patients do not get the right treatment simply because they are anomalies. The social benefit is based around the people who deal with dementia and Alzhiemer’s and their families. They can lead happier and healthier lives if our research is successful. Over time if we can work towards helping medical specialists understand that neglect and ignoring anomalies is not acceptable in the cases of dementia and Alzhimer patients.
