Abstract
For this project, we are assessing the facilitators and barriers related to implementation success for two effectiveness-implementation trials conducted in southern Malawi that aim to improve HIV prevention knowledge and behaviors. The first is an HIV-enhanced group antenatal care (GANC) service delivery model and the second is a peer-led group HIV prevention program implemented by community volunteers. These interventions used similar implementation strategies including a simple 3-Step Implementation Model, an implementation toolkit, and strong training with plans to build capacities for ownership. Both interventions were implemented with high fidelity to their core components and resulted in improved HIV knowledge and greater condom use.
