Abstract
The United States dementia care system has wide-reaching effects on the lives of dementia sufferers and caregivers but needs improvement to properly address the unique needs of dementia patients and their caregivers. This project addresses that need by conducting a scoping literature review of other developed countries’ care systems including Canada, France, Germany, China and Japan. We hope to reveal potential ways to improve the United States dementia care system with techniques developed and functioning in these countries. To do this, our team will develop an appropriate set of search terms and search multiple databases before narrowing the papers down by relevance. Once the final set of papers have been selected, they will be analyzed for important results and trends of the research literature. We expect the results to clarify the specific ways in which dementia care works in these countries and how the United States dementia care system could be optimized for the specific needs of dementia patients. Results from the literature review will provide specific directions for future studies within the U.S. with policy relevance.
