Abstract

The Constituency-Level Elections Archive (CLEA) is inspired by the need to conduct research on elections and democratic processes across the globe. The ultimate goal of the project is to preserve and consolidate detailed election results at the constituency level for lower chamber and upper chamber legislative elections from around the world in one comprehensive resource that is ready for analysis and publicly available at no cost. This public good is expected to be of use to a range of audiences for research, education, and policy-making. As mentioned above, the project documented election results from official data sources such as governmental websites, NGOs, and international organizations. We gather the election data from different countries around the world and analyze the types and modes of these elections, then document the data- which includes the parties, constituencies, candidates, eligible votes, registered voters, etc. into our database. CLEA has recorded the evolution and reforms of election systems of different countries over time, and has become a reliable source to study democratic consolidation and backsliding. By incorporating these valuable data into a single database, CLEA has become one of the most important sources for researchers and policymakers.
