Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease is a burden to millions every day. Thus far, cognitive decline and biomarkers have been the predominantly examined indicators of dementia. However, neuropsychiatric symptoms associated with mild behavioral impairment are a set of non-cognitive symptoms that have been shown to predict conversion to dementia, and are of particular interest to researchers. This research examines the relationships between neuropsychiatric symptoms and emotional experience in individuals with amnestic mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia of the Alzheimer’s type enrolled in the STIM study (R01AG058724; PI: Hampstead). Elucidating these relationships may give researchers and medical professionals a fuller understanding of both dementia and its risk factors.
