Abstract

The period following a post-acquisition divestment is a critical one for a firm. Given the destabilizing nature of one of these events, a firm needs to have the right leadership in place to adjust following one of these events. Yet, despite the imminent need for competent leadership following these events, very little is known about what factors impact managerial retention following post-acquisition divestment events. This study analyzes how factors such as managerial skills, divestment motivations, and industry-level factors, and additional factors motivate manager retention following a divestment event. This study will use datasets on US Merger and Acquisition cases spanning from 1993 to 2014 to empirically analyze what factors have the most influence.
