Abstract
Quadriceps muscle weakness is a common clinical sequelae after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). This weakness may increase muscular functional demand (FD), leading to compensatory strategies during gait. The objective of this study was to quantify differences in FD between the ACLR and non-ACLR limbs in individuals following ACLR with FD as the quotient of the muscle moment generated during a task and the maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), expressed as a percentage. Differences in MVIC and knee moments during gait for the ACLR and non-ACLR limbs were statistically significant (P < 0.001; P< 0.001) while differences in FD were statistically insignificant (P = 0.151). The indifference in FD suggests that there is no difference in muscle capacity usage during walking between limbs following ACLR
