Abstract
The green energy market has been on the rise in recent years with developments in technology and green energy initiatives. Due to its insofar short existence, there is not a wealth of historical data over many years to draw from. However, data from the past three decades detailing the growth of the solar photovoltaic market in California can be analyzed to glean information on what particular factors have played a role in the rise of these green energy firms, and to what extent. In order to effectively analyze this data, Excel and Stata were used as primary software tools. Utilizing Excel and Stata, we were able to effectively analyze this data, and primarily focused on creating a histogram of the geographical area of transactions for these firms, with specific interest in the timeline for the firm entering the market as well as a geographical subarea. We further explored the tendency of firms to open themselves up to new energy options as opposed to staying loyal to their original energy model throughout their lifetime. The relevance of this project cannot be understated in regard to our future as a green-energy driven world. Green energy is changing what resources we use and how; the strategies that green energy firms choose to take now will influence the success of clean energy as a goal and global initiative for the future.
