Abstract
Intimate partner violence, including emotional and physical abuse, has deleterious effects on psychological and physical health. Little is known about rates of intimate partner victimization among individuals with chronic pain, as well as how victimization co-occurs with perpetration. The present study explored rates of intimate partner victimization and perpetration in a sample of Michigan Medicine patients who self-reported chronic pain. Findings suggest that rates of dominance and intimidation, as well as physical abuse with a current partner, are high among individuals with chronic pain. The findings have important implications for clinical care.
