Abstract
The research study aims to examine the adverse auditory effects of prolonged exposure to excessive noise from video games. Through the creation and analysis of video game sound samples spanning various frequencies, this project aims to quantify exposure levels and demonstrate the potential misperception of sound loudness with different types of sound. Furthermore, the project seeks to propose viable solutions by emphasizing the importance of numerical considerations in the design of game sound effects and recommending practical measures to mitigate potential hearing impairment during gaming sessions. By addressing these critical aspects, the research hopes to enhance awareness on auditory health risks associated with video game sound exposure and contribute towards the development of safer gaming environments. The findings of this investigation will provide valuable insights into the specific sounds within video games that surpass recommended noise exposure limits and have the potential to compromise auditory health. By delineating the frequency ranges and intensity levels associated with auditory damage, the study aims to discuss actionable guidance for game developers in designing sound effects that prioritize player well-being without sacrificing immersive gaming experiences. Moreover, the research outcomes will empower players with knowledge and strategies to proactively safeguard their hearing during gameplay. Ultimately, this project aims to foster a culture of responsibility and awareness within the gaming community, promoting healthier gaming practices and contributing towards the long-term preservation of auditory health.
