Abstract

Neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals have apparent variations in skills that require visuomotor integration. Data from current research shows that neurodivergent individuals fall and injure themselves more frequently than neurotypical people. The Motor and Visual Development (MVD) lab at the University of Michigan seeks to assess these differences to reach an ultimate goal: to improve support and accessibility for neurodivergent communities. This lab generally utilizes a bottom-up approach by collecting participant data, identifying commonalities, and analyzing specific aspects of the data. The MVD lab embraces a variety of methodologies including neuropsychological, motor, and vision assessments. This poster will specifically examine how neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals express different kinematics through motion-based capture technology. Both marker-based and marker-less motion capture are used for data collection and analysis through softwares known as Cortex and Theia respectively. Visual 3D, another top-rated motion capture software, builds a 3D skeleton of the participant in order to collect data such as joint angles. As human data collection and analysis is an enduring process, there is currently no data to be reported. Expected results will likely support current research in that visuomotor integration is more difficult for neurodivergent communities. With this data and future research within the lab, collaborative engagement with stakeholders can help influence and aid the neurodivergent community as they navigate through life.
