Abstract
This research project aims to explore the Whole Health system of medical care. Whole Health was developed for the care of veteran patients in the VA Healthcare System. It focuses on holistic well-being encompassing physical, mental, and emotional aspects. It emphasizes a comprehensive approach to wellness by exploring the interconnectedness of various factors contributing to overall health. The central question driving the research project is to understand how research participants feel that a holistic perspective on health, addressing both physical and mental well-being, can lead to changes in quality of life. The project seeks to contribute new insights into the significance of considering the interplay between physical and mental health in promoting Whole Health. It seeks to expand existing knowledge by highlighting the interconnected nature of these facets and how they collectively influence an individual’s health. The methodologies employed involved an initial literature review to understand what areas of Whole Health needed further study A survey was developed by the research team and the survey was distributed on the Qualtrics platform to veterans, healthcare workers, and students. The survey data was analyzed qualitatively in Qualtrics and quantitatively in RStudio. Chi-squared testing was completed to understand the relationship between demographic variables and areas such as exercise, sleep, and hygiene. For example, a particular area of interest to me was the connection between age and oral hygiene. Following an understanding of the reearch, I was able to develop a community-based implementation project focused on students. The goal is to utilize the deeper meaning of what has been found and how it relates to the implementation of dentistry and to make sense of it by comparing the findings both within and across groups, and by comparing the study’s findings with those of other studies. The community-based implementation project will provide a framework for communicating the essence of dental proactiveness to students and will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on whole health.
