Abstract
Background: Veterans Whole Health, a holistic approach to healthcare, emphasizes the overall well-being of veterans’ health, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects,as described in The Passport to Whole Health. Research students conducted a Personal Health Inventory Survey and chose topics of interest related to Whole Health. Our research focused on the effects of burnout on mental health, a significant factor in overall health and well-being in various ways. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate key aspects of Whole Health that significantly impact one’s overall health across a diverse subject pool. Methods: We designed a comprehensive survey based on published research articles and The Passport to Whole Health, comprising 38 questions across various categories. After feedback and distribution, we received 167 responses. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively in Qualtrics and also quantitatively using RStudio software to perform chi-square analysis tests. We analyzed the association between burnout and emotional baseline. Conclusions: The study found a significant association (p-value = 0.002) between emotional baseline and experiencing burnout, contrary to the null hypothesis that stated there would be no significant association. This research aids healthcare providers and individuals in holistic health assessment and intervention, promoting healthier lifestyles and mental well-being while fostering a culture of wellness and support. Due to the results of this research, a fellow student and I decided to make a podcast, “Whole Health and Blissful Being”, educating the public and students about the 8 aspects of Whole Health and how they can implement these practices in their life to improve their overall well-being. Our podcast is focused on burnout prevention in college students, and what everyday practices and lifestyles can help deter burnout.
