Abstract
The Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear accident on March 28, 1979, stands as a critical event in the history of nuclear energy in the United States. The incident began with an unnoticed open valve that allowed coolant water to escape from the Unit 2 reactor, compounded by technical and human errors, leading to a partial core meltdown. This research investigates the long-term impacts of the TMI accident on public perceptions and nuclear policy. By reviewing media reports and policy documents, we examine how the accident influenced public attitudes toward nuclear safety and prompted changes in safety standards.
