Abstract

Title: Comprehensive Opioid Stimulant and Substance Use Program 2023 Evaluation Background: COSSUP stands for Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program which aims to identify, treat, and support those who are impacted by substance abuse. This study is focused on RISE, which provides peer support coaching for those struggling with substance use disorders in the Genesee County Jail system. Peer support coaching is important because it allows (in this setting) participants to talk to a person with similar experiences. While programs like this are exciting, the idea of having Peer Support Coaches in jail settings is relatively new and the literature surrounding it is limited. Objective: To provide data informing barriers and facilitators to implementation, and give insights on how programs like RISE are operated. Methods: A total of 11 participants, including peer coaches, jail staff, key stakeholders, and healthcare system professionals were recruited for this study. Each participant took part in an in-depth interview guided by a semi-structured interview protocol informed by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). These interviews were audio-recorded and subsequently transcribed verbatim to ensure accuracy. The transcribed data is currently undergoing thematic analysis using a rapid qualitative analysis approach to identify key patterns and insights. Emerging themes that are most relevant to the CFIR domains will be highlighted and supported with direct participant quotations to illustrate key findings. Results/Conclusion: This study is still ongoing so the results and concluding remarks are pending.
