Abstract
With a prolific history spanning back to the 1940s, the University of Michigan’s Department of Epidemiology has inconsistently accounted for all of the groundbreaking research that has occurred since its establishment. To rectify this, the department has begun consolidating archival material by conducting research on contributors who have reached emeritus status. Throughout the academic year, the study placed a focus on Dr. Mara Julius, who was a prominent researcher at the Department of Epidemiology prior to her passing in 2011. As we are unable to consult with Dr. Julius herself, an analysis was conducted of various other materials we had in relation to her work. Many of Dr. Julius’ work related files were donated to the department after her passing, and for the purpose of the study, they were reviewed and cataloged to allow us to highlight her most important work. The study also made use of a wealth of online publications of her studies, as well as contacting various publishers to receive copies of her more elusive publications. Once all of the materials had been collected and analyzed, with the use of Google Sites, a website was constructed to display the work Dr. Julius did during her time here. Moving forward, there will be work conducted to create more websites for all of the emeritus faculty and these websites will serve as a historical repository of the work that has been done in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan.
