Abstract
Abstract: In an increasingly digital world, access to online resources can be a transformative tool for families in need. This research examines how financially challenged mothers navigate digital platforms—such as social media, websites, and apps—to secure essential resources for their children. Through semi-structured interviews with both mothers and service providers, the study seeks to identify common barriers, highlight the benefits of digital tools, and explore ways to make these platforms more inclusive and effective. By centering the lived experiences of these mothers, the research aims to inform the design of digital tools that are culturally sensitive, accessible, and empowering. The findings will contribute to a broader conversation about digital equity and resource accessibility for marginalized communities. Project Description: This study explores how financially challenged mothers use digital platforms to access critical resources for their children and the challenges they face in doing so. Through qualitative interviews with 15-20 mothers, the research captures their experiences, struggles, and successes when seeking aid through digital means. Additionally, insights from service providers who work closely with these mothers will offer a broader perspective on the systemic challenges and opportunities in digital resource accessibility. A mixed-methods approach, including interviews and a literature review, informs the study’s findings. Key research questions include: How do financially challenged mothers use digital platforms to access resources? What barriers hinder their ability to find and utilize these resources effectively? What advantages do digital platforms offer compared to traditional resource-seeking methods? How can these mothers contribute to reshaping digital tools to better meet their needs? What insights do service providers have about the challenges and successes of digital resource utilization? Participants are recruited through partnerships with community organizations, ensuring a participant-centered and ethical approach. Findings from this study will provide actionable recommendations for designing digital platforms that prioritize accessibility and usability for financially challenged mothers, ultimately empowering them to navigate the digital landscape more effectively.
