Abstract
Digital accessibility remains a significant challenge despite the availability of straightforward preventative measures and remediation techniques. Though recent efforts have created a more inclusive digital environment, ensurance of full participation for individuals of all abilities remains incomplete. With the advancement of technology, it has become increasingly important to prioritize preventative accessibility measures in websites, documents, and online platforms. Through partnerships with projects at the Institute of Social Research (ISR), this project seeks to ensure accessibility on digital platforms for individuals who use screen readers, neurodivergent individuals, and users with visual or auditory disabilities. Analyzing data from document and website remediations helps us identify trends in accessibility issues and demonstrates how these challenges can be effectively prevented during content creation. To apply findings from the project, a comprehensive website designed to serve as a long-term resource for organizations is in development. This platform will offer practical guidance on common accessibility issues, their implications, and actionable steps for proactivity and remediation. It will feature up-to-date accessibility standards, including examples from ISR projects, and demonstrate how proactively implemented best practices can significantly enhance digital accessibility. Our project emphasizes the shift from reactive fixes to proactive accessibility design, reducing the need for time-consuming remediation. By promoting practical tools, we aim to help organizations create inclusive digital resources and strengthen their commitment to accessibility.
