Abstract
Chimpanzees and other primates are very unique compared to other mammals in the way that they utilize their limbs (locomotor behaviors) and their orthography (upright torso). In our research, we intend on compounding countless amounts of Chimpanzee video data and analytic data to assess how Chimpanzee postural and behavioral characteristics directly correlate to their foraging success in their natural environment. Our video data is collected from Uganda and Senegal, allowing us to further determine the environment’s impact on locomotor behaviors (Woodland v forest). Upon video data collection, we ensure proper titling of each video taken where we include Chimpanzee name, modes, food consumed, tree location, etc. Additionally, we train to code each postural and locomotor submode by each Chimpanzee for accurate and reliable data that we can eventually use to draw conclusions. When constructing our data, we also reference previous publications and findings to reinforce our understanding of particular behaviors, ensuring proper analysis.
