Abstract
We are investigating disability rights and protections in terms of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Currently, there is significant documentation on the UN’s website regarding the CRPD and the communication between the UN and each country on their efforts towards inclusive and accessible policy; however, the database that the UN uses is difficult to navigate and comprehend. The purpose of this project is to create a new, more accessible database for monitoring CRPD implementation that can be used by scholars, policymakers, activists and the general public to better understand the current situation and further research disability issues. By carefully sifting through the data, we gain insight into how different countries interpret the articles of the CRPD and the policies they are introducing to enforce it. We also better understand how the information is organized by the UN so we can make it more accessible to others. Through this process, the end goal is to launch a new database to encourage the study of disability rights and effective policies.
