Abstract
I am a part of a project team tasked with developing a sustainable, functioning hydropower machine. The Hydropower Collegiate Competition (HCC) at the University of Michigan is a student-led initiative aimed at advancing sustainable energy solutions through innovative hydropower technologies. This competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, challenges teams to address real-world challenges in the hydropower industry by designing, modeling, and analyzing potential hydroelectric systems. The UMich team consists of students from various disciplines, working collaboratively to develop technical designs, assess feasibility, and propose business solutions that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of hydropower. My role as the finance lead plays a critical role in ensuring the financial viability of the project, collaborating with other team members to develop cost-effective strategies and a business model that aligns with industry standards, and helping the team create a realistic and competitive proposal. This project is being undertaken to promote innovation in renewable energy and contribute to the future of sustainable hydropower development. By participating in the competition, my team and I are gaining hands-on experience in addressing challenges such as grid integration, environmental impact, and economic feasibility.
