Abstract
A study is currently being done with the goal of determining whether or not there was a large increase in eating disorder patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, it is investigating if there was also a large increase in eating disorder patients who received dextrose and a fluid bolus as treatment, as fluid boluses and dextrose containing fluids are unsafe and contraindicated in patients with eating diosrders. The study also aims to investigate whether the prevalence of the use of fluid boluses is due to a lack of education on the negative effects that they can have. In order to accomplish the goals of this study, pre and post pandemic patient data was collected and analyzed, in order to determine whether or not these patients were treated with a fluid bolus. In addition, patient data will be collected from before and after educational interventions were made at C.S. Mott’s Children’s hospital. This data will be analyzed in order to determine if an increase in education on the harmful effects of fluid boluses will result in a decrease in the frequency in which they are used.
