Abstract
This research is a crossover between the University of Michigan and Loyola University to discover more about neuroscience in high school education. The goal of this research is to analyze a summer program about STEM and neuroscience specifically targeted towards high school students in order to learn how neuroscience can be integrated into society in conjunction with other research studies aimed at studying neuroscience in other parts of society as well. Specifically, our research is focused on how the program gives students opportunities and access to tools that they can utilize to further their STEM education, and we also looked at how this program affects, changes, or maintains their own personal STEM identity. The students in the program kept photo journals of their participation in the program as well as reflections on the activities they completed in the photos. These photo journals were then analyzed by research teams at Michigan and Loyola in order to understand how the students’ experiences have helped influence their STEM identity and what they might choose to pursue moving forward.
