Abstract
AI is an ever growing resource that if used correctly can be one of humanity’s most impressive innovations. AI is destined to become a part of the realm of medicine as it has the capabilities of doing tedious tasks in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, AI is not yet ready to take on the difficult challenges that medicine is known to have. AI first must be sculpted into a reliable and valid tool that humanity can take advantage of. The DOPS lab specializes in sculpting the AI. Clinicians do not have the time to be reading long memos on their patients. The goal of the DOPS lab is to teach AI to summarize 1-2 minute long voice diaries recorded by psychiatric patients over the course of at least 30 days. The summaries are structured, short, and efficient. The AI summaries are graded with a rubric designed by the DOPS lab team. After grading the AI is then taught to fix its mistakes through a series of programming. This will lead to more efficient summaries. It has been observed that AI will pick up on trends in the voice diaries. These trends can often be difficult for a clinician to pick up on if not reading carefully. The integration of AI into healthcare is in its infancy, but will soon develop into a modern tool used in everyday healthcare interactions. AI being used as a summarizing tool for clinicians is the first step of integration. These tasks will get the ball rolling on larger more significant projects.
