Abstract
The Neurodiversity Project was created to foster a neuro-inclusive environment at the University of Michigan. The project is geared towards exploring alternative mechanisms to build support structures for the neurodivergent community on campus. The arts and music subgroup researches the use of arts-based therapy to improve coping strategies, communication, and reduce sensory issues. The team is conducting a literature review to better understand past and current research as well as to inform an active research component. The team is currently working with a music therapist and will host a group therapy session amongst Neurodivergent students on campus. Future work will involve data collection, systematic review, and analysis to assess the effectiveness of arts-based interventions amongst Neurodivergent students. The results of this project will inform future practices at inclusive support systems at the University of Michigan and other institutions.
