Abstract
Opioid and substance use disorder-related overdoses is the leading cause of pregnancy-associated mortality in Michigan (CDC, 2023). OUD and prenatal services can improve outcomes but are underutilized due to barriers that limit evidence-based services for birthing people with OUD. Collaborative care models and access to comprehensive services are necessary in addressing maternal health disparities for birthing people with OUD/SUD. The Partnering for the Future Clinic (PFF) at the University of Michigan Health Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital is a high-risk obstetrics clinic specifically designed to address these challenges by offering comprehensive, centralized care. Its interprofessional team uses a trauma-informed, supportive approach to providing wraparound services with expertise in obstetrics, perinatal psychiatry, addiction medicine, anesthesiology, physical therapy, social work, and care coordination. This PFF project aims to enhance the quality of care and birth experiences for pregnant individuals with OUD/SUD. To achieve this, understanding the landscape of services available to PFF patients is crucial. Insights from these data are being used to refine care services and develop a patient-centered approach. By addressing the unique needs of this population, the clinic seeks to foster positive maternal and neonatal outcomes, enhance patient experiences, and promote the overall well-being of birthing individuals and their families.
