Abstract
The overall goal of this project is to make advancements in this movement through the enhancement of understanding aspects concerning the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Children and Two-Spirit Peoples Crisis. My research question is: What are the impacts of colonialism’s implementation of the patriarchy in Indigenous Communities? Specifically, how does it contribute to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children, and Two-Spirit Peoples Crisis? The primary research method I have utilized is Indigenous Research Methodology, which ensures that all aspects of data collection are approached intentionally to maintain that all analysis is being directly pulled from decolonized sources. Given this, the outline of this body of work is: a historical analysis of the history of matrilineal societies within Indigenous communities and how colonialism caused a social and political shift to a patriarchal society, a contemporary analysis of how this cultural shift has impacted the MMIWC2SP Crisis, and how examining the role of Indigenous Feminism in advocacy and resistance. This data will be used in informational awareness capacities, such as pamphlets, websites, newspaper articles, academic publications, and social media.
