Abstract
There is a current gap in the literature within social science research. This research project attempts to close the gap. This project utilizes the ICPSR (The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research). ICPSR offers datasets as a search tool. This project attempts to survey scholars who have published using ICPSR data in an attempt to determine what data researchers specifically need. Examples include variables, subject keywords, and geographic information about the dataset. This research project is helpful because most academic research on tool development is mostly on documents as search objects (e.g., a book), rather than data. We are hoping to find what information researchers need to find and reuse data in their research. Our main question is: What information do the authors of peer-reviewed publications that use ICPSR data report is the most important for to find and evaluate data? Our second question is: What are the differences in how important this information is to researchers across different academic disciplines and demographic groups and why do we think this is the case?
