For my research, I am primarily working on analyzing a set of video-recorded interviews. Since my partner and I have finished developing the code for and coding the interviews, our data has been sent to a statistician to be analyzed. In the meantime, I have plenty of busy-work that includes data entry, interview transcription, and for the first time this week I will be going on home visits to conduct interviews!<\/p>\n

The work that I primarily do, regarding the videos, can be done remotely. After I drop Jaylen off at summer camp, I sometimes set up office at a coffee shop. I’ve also worked at County Farm Park and the UROP office, but most of the time I end up working at home. (if I can manage to stay awake\/focused the entire time, it keeps me from spending money on coffee and food. also – couch.)<\/p>\n

When I’m not working remotely, I work in the 300 N. Ingalls building. It’s a Michigan Medicine office building that houses the department I’m working in – the Center for Human Growth and Development.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The data entry is the only task I have that is time and place-bound to in-lab on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am-noon. If I need to or choose\u00a0to use the lab otherwise, the building is open 9-5. This building is a little on the creepy\/rickety side so…it’s usually a no.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parking can be obnoxious – the closest public garage is Palmer and it’s a 10-minute walk on top of $1.60\/hour. I usually spend 10-15 minutes looking for a free space in the residential community. They have a 2 hr time limit, but I usually only spend at most 3 hours in this building so it works!\u00a0<\/span>If I don’t have my life together by the time I leave the house, there’s a cool cafe inside the building where I can grab coffee, snacks, or lunch if needed. Thankfully I haven’t had to grab breakfast here yet, even though they have fantastic options. That helps me feel better about life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I spread my time around based on my UROP obligations until I’ve exhausted my workload for the week or my kid-free business hours. Around 5 pm I head to pick Jaylen up from camp and we wind down for the day. I typically have some remote work that I tend to after he goes to bed.<\/p>\n

Currently, I’m taking a breather from this intense coding project. Altogether I coded and re-coded 115 5 minute clips from 30-minute videos in the past week. I probably have not appropriately tracked the hours that it took to do that. Time has blurred together. A beer shall be had.<\/p>\n
