With this blog prompt, I think it helps to be grateful yet honest when describing how the experiences provided so far are in the WAGSFP.\u00a0 It’s this combination that ultimately allows the most growth to occur within any person, group, or task – and that’s really what I’d want out of an overall fantastic program that UROP could provided for me and all the other fellows in it.<\/p>\n
I overall am truly enjoying the time I spend learning more about other fellows, the research they’re doing on campus, and their experiences regarding their own identities – those perhaps make up the most interesting, knowledge-filled parts of the fellowship.\u00a0 The list of community events, for me at least, has also helped whenever I have some time on my hands and want to tag along with the fellows and bond.\u00a0 Additionally, the flexibility my mentor and graduate student are giving me with making my project into something more has been a massive privilege that I don’t really get in many other spheres of my life; as such, my more historical lit review is something I’m trying to not take for granted for the upcoming symposium (esp. when I’m now getting paid for it).\u00a0 Moreover, idk how any of us are going to survive without Elizabeth, but I think Michelle is super cool and, in the end, can handle us.<\/p>\n
Brown bag topics range from okay to super interesting and engaging; I kind of wish most of them didn’t occur\u00a0in July and were more spread out between the two months we’re all here, but I guess scheduling issues can’t be helped during the summer.\u00a0 Seminars also have the same sort of range in excitement – since I’m kind of a veteran with UROP, stuff with ethics, how to make a poster and abstract, etc. is material I’ve kind of already known beforehand.\u00a0 However, I can see the value in going through that stuff with anyone new to research (and I’m sure there are plenty of fellows who fall into that category).\u00a0 Maybe for research veterans part of the program in the future, there can be seminars geared towards more publication opportunities or how to take their research even further.\u00a0 Also with the journal club stuff, it would probably help if the poll was taken early on in the program rather than in the middle of it to gauge interest in it; that way, adjustments can be made early on instead of later.<\/p>\n
TL;DR\u00a0 Good program overall with great experiences and ones that could use improvement.<\/p>\n
P.S.\u00a0 Elizabeth, before you go, if you’re reading this, did anyone tell you that you resemble and kind of sound like Daria from an MTV show called…well,\u00a0Daria<\/em>?\u00a0 It’s not a bad thing – she’s a cool character and this is honestly meant to be a compliment.\u00a0 Also, in terms of TV shows everyone in this program should watch, I’d recommend it. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Hi again y’all!
