And honestly, it’s been amazing (sorry to anyone hoping to read a scathing review). While there are definitely some areas where the program could be improved, as with any program, I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve genuinely enjoyed being a part of WAGSFP.

At the very end of the the winter semester, right before summer break started, I got the news that I’d been accepted into WAGSFP. I had figured my application been rejected because it had been so long since I submitted it. I had even already accepted a summer job as a camp counselor. Upon hearing this news, I immediately began making a pro-con list to juxtapose my two summer employment options. Thankfully, after much debate and phone calls with the important people in my life, I decided to accept the invitation to participate in WAGSFP. And man, am I glad I did.

This program has exposed me to so many amazing people and opportunities. Each and every one of the other fellows is honestly a star, and I admire everyone and have so much respect for the path they took to get here. One possibility for improving the program, as others have mentioned, would be to increase the number of facilitated hangout opportunities for fellows. I know it was mentioned at the start of the program that there would be more chances for this, but not many of those ideas made it to fruition.

The overall programming of WAGSFP has also been good, although I must say I enjoy WAGSFP-only seminars more than joint seminars. Also, as someone who participated in UROP the past year, a lot of the seminars have been repeated (i.e., Reading an Academic Paper and Ethics in Research). However, I understand that that is not the case for everyone and a lot of people may have benefited from those seminars. I am really looking forward to future seminars that explore new topics, especially Networking and Negotiating Your Salary.

If you are a future fellow looking into WAGSFP for the summer, go for it! This experience will give you invaluable research experience, as well as connect you to so many amazing people!

Welcome to an honest, no-holds-barred review of my time in the WAGSFP fellowship.
