Hello all, for almost the last time!<\/p>\n
I’ve had a great time in this program. I met a lot of great people, got to continue in a lab that I really like, and of course I got paid to do work that I enjoy.<\/p>\n
One thing that I really liked about the program was the freedom we had with our projects. Although we had to attend seminars and a few other events, for the most part our research was between us and our mentors. The only exceptions were regarding tho poster specifications, and when we shared our projects with each other via presentations, and when we sought out advice or guidance from our leaders and our peers. It was a nice balance between being on our own and still having support.<\/p>\n
I think that that balance was especially beneficial in this situation due to the ranges of age and experience in the group. Furthermore, the range of backgrounds and life experiences was super cool in and of itself. As a rising college sophomore, I am just now getting used to being considered an equal by people significantly older than me, and being a part of this fellowship really helped me become more comfortable in such situations, especially with people from outside Ann Arbor and U of M. It also really opened my eyes to the idea that I don’t need to be in such a hurry to get settled in one place in my life; it’s okay to branch out, take unusual side paths, and do things simply because I’m interested in them.<\/p>\n
I’m glad to have been able to share this experience with so many wonderful people, and I hope we can stay in touch!<\/p>\n
