I honestly have nothing but kind words to say about the Women and Gender Summer Fellowship. First of all, I’m happy that there is a research fellowship specifically for this field as I think there are so many new things to learn about the world through the lens of women’s issues and gender. Applying to the fellowship, I wanted a way to continue the men’s health research that I have been doing since freshman year while learning how my research fits into the wider world of gender research. I’ve achieved this and so much more through WAGSFP. Perhaps my favorite part of the program were the variety of people I met and learning about the research they were doing. I appreciate the UROP team for accepting people from diverse backgrounds and interests because just meeting these people and learning about their passions has inspired me to pursue my own research with renewed vigor.<\/p>\n
I also am appreciative of some of the programming like the salary presentation, the multicultural skills workshop, and the journal clubs. The salary presentation got me thinking about an aspect of my future that I never really considered to that point, and empowered me to not only know my worth, but to also establish<\/em> my worth through doing quality work during undergrad\/grad school. I also really liked the journal club presentations because it gave me the chance to find other literature relating to my research, and also talking about it and making those connections as to how my personal research connects to a discipline in general.<\/p>\n Through WAGSFP, I learned the lesson (again) of how important it is to manage your research with the rest of your time, especially when you are working independently for the most part.
