I have learned more than I could have even predicted at the beginning of the summer. Not only was I able to learn the general functions of being in a lab, I was able to learn more about myself and possibilities for my future. I was unsure if research was the path for me in life going into the summer, but I was excited to learn and gain new experiences to aid me in discovering what path was meant for me. I have been pushed in what I thought I was capable of, and I have had to do a lot of training in a relatively short amount of time due to the fact that everything has been so new to me. I feel very lucky to be a part of this. There is something I find very special about the trans community, and being able to help a community that has always been there for me is an incredible experience. Because the research is so rewarding, I have enjoyed it even if every activity is not very exciting or fun. My mentor has also provided me with many articles and reviews that have helped me pin down more specific interests of mine. I realized that endocrine function is much more closely tied to mental health than I ever thought before. The intersection of identity, mental health, and endocrine function is what I want to focus on in the future. I believe this is where I am headed, and even if I don\u2019t know exactly what career path this will take me on, I have a better idea of where to start in figuring that out.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
