I have been loving my research experience thus far. My writing skills have improved significantly since my project shifted to a literature review on the measurement of participation in digital health interventions for adolescents. Previously, I intended to work with SPSS and data collected from a study that the PRHE lab conducted. But now that I am working in an unfamiliar territory I have learned more about statistics and the formal process of conducting a literature review. The process thus far has been successful as I have come up with keywords and exclusion criteria I am narrowing my search down. This has certainly been challenging as I initially came up with over 500 articles to search through. Learning the ropes and technicalities while also meeting deadlines every week has been tough at times but I am getting the hang of it and learning how to best optimize my time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My identity as a first-generation college student has greatly impacted my understanding of research. Initially, as I began research with the traditional UROP program, I had no idea what it entailed. Two years later, I am still learning after completing UROP Research Scholars as well. My identity and experiences have helped me to create a passion for research in public health and have allowed me to get involved with activism academically. My community has inspired me to get involved in health prevention research and thus far I have studied gun violence prevention, substance use, and HIV\/STI risk behaviors.
