Since the beginning of the Summer Fellowship, I’ve grown a considerable amount. For one, I’ve learned to be more conscious of my responsibilities within my team. Additionally, I became more comfortable with my shortcomings in skill, and I continue to use that as a motivation to be more immersed in my project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The technical challenges that come from being in a research project that introduces a completely new topic to me is plenty. There is also the challenge with working with others who are more at ease when working on the same task as me, as it makes me feel less confident in myself. In spite of these challenges, I have always been persistent with my work, as I dive into extra training and other learning opportunities and resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I know the subject of social identity will continue being significant in my future work within this project. The intersectionality of race, gender, and sexual orientation and their amalgamated impact on a person’s working experience is important to analyze. I have personal stake in my research as I am an Indonesian immigrant that identifies as cis-woman. My identity offers me an understanding on the absolute abuses of society’s sectors, such as employment and education. Pay gaps, hiring gaps, and the recent turning-down of Affirmative Action reflect these abuses which must be analyzed through research projects such as my own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There’s a lot said there about social identity, but I’ve come to realize that a subconscious job of a researcher is also to prevent the creation of a Modern Prometheus<\/em>.
