As an avid journaler I am someone who thoroughly enjoys reflecting. When reading back my first WAGSFP journal entry I was correct in my assumptions. I did<\/em> overestimate how much time I had before starting the poster and I did<\/em> make errors in the new programming I used this summer. With the errors, though, I was able to strengthen my resilience when faced with challenges or defeat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as I had hoped, I do feel as though I have gained more confidence and stability with my analytical and statistical skills. I was nervous retraining myself how to use R programming but to a much more involved extent, but I believe I\u2019m at a place where I can utilize the platform and troubleshoot when necessary. I am grateful that my mentor, Desiree, is so friendly, patient, and knowledgeable and guided me through these errors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What really propelled me through this program this summer was my future career goals. Grad school is not for everyone, but it has been a goal of mine since I knew I wanted to pursue psychology. I have been crafting my resume, my essays, and my list of colleges in hopes of becoming a PhD candidate. Furthermore, I knew I wanted to find my research “voice”. I found that my background knowledge of social structures and constructs informed my interests and analyses more than I was aware of. I tended to look deeper into how identities influenced outcome variables and if measurement tools demonstrate biases. Uncovering social dynamics that underlie psychological phenomena, I think, is part of my research niche that I was searching for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Future WAGSFP fellows <\/em>\u2013 the time in this program will go fast<\/span>! However, it does not detract from the invaluable lessons you takeaway. You\u2019ll learn more skills, dive deeper into literature, become comfortable with analyzing results (supportive or unsupportive of your hypothesis), and discover what areas of study you\u2019re passionate about. Work hard, talk with your mentor, and reflect often.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am truly thankful that the WGS department selected me as one of their summer research fellows. I will certainly utilize this experience to guide my future endeavors and passions. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
