I am an incoming senior at UM, an Economics major, and an out-of-state transfer student. Prior to attending the University of Michigan, I spent the first 2 years of my undergraduate at a local community college. Career-wise, I hope to become a college professor and initiate research that reflects my personal interest in antitrust policy. WAGSFP provides me with a promising foundation from which I can continue learning about the research process, furthering my chances of reaching my end goal. I am specifically excited to continue working on my previous research project from the 2023-2024 academic year and become more involved. Working during the Summer allows me to dedicate more time to my project and prioritize my contributions. I am eager to delve deeper and continue participating with the hopes of showing a more fluent comprehension of the effects of gender dynamics on labor markets. I believe that my previous experience on this project and in UROP serves as a huge benefit. For instance, prior knowledge about the work already accomplished will allow my mentor and me to jump right into a new assignment instead of worrying about familiarizing myself with the basics. Despite my familiarity with the environment of my research project, I still expect there to be some minor challenges that I may face. Firstly, I anticipate there to be the typical challenges associated with working fully remote. To counteract these challenges I am planning to communicate heavily with my mentor and clarify any concerns we may have. Like facing all new experiences, I also expect there to be a learning curve with the new assignments I will be given. However, these troubles are likely to be solved through patience and transparency. Overall, I am excited to begin working on my project this Summer and encounter new challenges as they represent opportunities for growth.

Here is a photo of me (second to the left) and my friends back home at a Dodgers game!

Hello! My name is Emily Estrada.
