I am working on an extensive research project in which my team and I are assessing the success of a diabetes training module on stigmatizing language used around patients with type two diabetes. This was developed through the Theory of Planned Behavior, which suggests that peoples’ attitudes, beliefs, and norms shape their intention, and therefore their behavior. Specifically, we are looking at how watching a video related to the stigmas and negative attitude towards diabetes can affect health care providers behaviors towards treating a patient, compared to those in the control group. (Without the training module) This has been in the works since 2023, and all of the data has been collected, but my task is to organize it and help to write the paper and submit it to the peer reviewing process. Our project is unique because we have collected both qualitative and quantitative data, and it is my job to combine both sets into a mixed methods analysis, to prove the merits of the training module. This project has the potential to be incredibly impactful because we hope to be published in the American Diabetes Association, which will reach the lives of many health care providers and patients alike. We believe that everyone has the right to seek safe and individually tailored treatment, without the anxiety around barriers such as negative attitudes and improper language from their providers. One strength of our paper is that we utilize real interactions with a patient, who is an actor, but it is important to keep any identifying information undisclosed, to protect ethical considerations. I have been keeping this In mind while I add quotes to the tables and to the paper, so that it can be a success!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
