Abstract

Even though Asian Americans are considered financially stable in the United States, little is known about the health disparities that undoubtedly exist among disadvantaged Asian populations, particularly the one’s residing in the underserved areas in Michigan. This research includes but is not solely limited to Asian communities that includes Chinese, Bangladeshi, Korean, Vietnamese – perhaps, it also includes data from people who preferred to not disclose their origin/ethnicity. This research was conducted solely to promptly investigate what factors contribute to disadvantaged communities limiting their access to Covid vaccines. Research methods include going out to free Covid vaccine clinic events conducting quantitative data e.g., survey-based to figure out if vulnerable individuals getting the vaccine had access to it prior coming to the free-clinic. This research is still ongoing, additional data is still being conducted, and results yet to be analyzed; though, it can be predicted that individuals getting the free vaccines do not have health insurance, are low-income, experience language barriers, have no or limited access to the internet, and many do not have jobs. The quantitative data conducted from surveys adds nuance to one’s understanding of how vulnerable individuals are facing many difficulties, but very minimum information about the disparities is out in the public. This research could potentially give rise to many questions, like what can be done to eliminate these disparities and what help can be provided so that vulnerable communities have access to vaccines and health insurance.
