Abstract
A study was undertaken to investigate the effect of degradation on the viability of the properties of two icephobic coatings. Two different formulations, including a base siloxane coating, and a cured oil siloxane were applied to aluminum coupon sheets. For each formulation, three tests were run, with two sheets per test. The tests included ice cycling, Taber abrasion, and chemical corrosion. In ice cycling, a sheet was run through 15 cycles of rapid heating and cooling. At increments of 5 cycles, 8 ice removal force values were collected. In Taber abrasion, a sheet was subjected to 3 rounds of 500 cycles of wear. Three ice values were collected at each 500 cycles. In chemical corrosion, a sheet was put in a highly salted environment and 8 ice values were tested post-corrosion.
