Abstract
My project with the organization Samaritas’ New American Services is to provide detailed information and express that data in a simple form that Samaritas volunteers can use for educational purposes. The reason is that many Americans are misinformed and afraid of incoming displaced people, especially refugees and asylum seekers, because of their many differences. However, I hope to alleviate those misunderstandings and support the Samaritas volunteers to create communities that will welcome displaced people with open hands. I am researching information about displaced people – who they are, their status in the world, and the process of US Refugee resettlement. More and more people are becoming displaced as they flee from danger with the lack of resources and time to find a haven. In addition, many countries refuse displaced people because many consider them dangerous to their well-being. Therefore, my responsibility is to provide the community with in-depth and well-documented knowledge and resources in hopes that they are willing to support the displaced people who want to build a safe future with their families. Also, I want people to focus their time and energy on taking action instead of wasting on their own research. So, I am creating a google slide presentation to share my findings in an accessible and convenient method for the Samaritas volunteers. Most importantly, I use primary sources supported by the US government and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) for all the information in the presentation. Through my research, I realized how fortunate I am to live without the fear of war and persecution. Therefore, with my project, I hope my audience understands that refugees are just like us – people who wish for a bright future here in the United States.
