Abstract
There are a multitude of tools available for the analysis of genomic data, but many of them do not allow for data or results to be easily shared. Additionally, many current tools lack the capability to produce interactive data visualizations. Spatial transcriptomics is a transformative molecular profiling mechanism that allows researchers to measure and map gene activity in tissues. However, this has brought about a plethora of new spatial data that must be analyzed. It is a significant challenge to analyze all the new data points fully. The Vitessce tool suite aims to do that in the Gehlenborg lab. The goal of this project is to incorporate Vitessce or similar spatial analysis tools through R Shiny within the Michigan Data Interface, a web-based platform for generating interactive visualizations of genomic data that can be easily shared to make collaboration more efficient. As a test case, we will be using publicly available data from the new NanoString CosMx Spatial Molecular Imager. Building a tool to analyze these new “spatial†data points within the UofM community through the MDI will serve as a gateway to novel research that gains more insight into genetic functions. This will allow researchers to come to more accurate conclusions about the genome and its expression within tissues.
