Abstract

Every year hurricanes significantly damage buildings and cause economic and societal losses; however, to construct models of structures subjected to stochastic wind loads, researchers often need to build computationally expensive models that consider various and uncertain parameters. To reduce the parameters needed to accurately construct models of structures subjected to stochastic wind loads, sensitivity analysis is necessary to determine which parameters are the most salient factor. To this end, the sensitivity of various parameters (excluding stochastic noise) was found using variance-based sensitivity analysis (Sobol Method) and expressed as Sobol Indices. However, due to the limitations of variance-based sensitivity analysis, the sensitivity of the stochastic noise was determined using relative entropy. The concept of relative entropy was used again to compute the sensitivity of other parameters to integrate the sensitivity analysis of the stochastic noise and other parameters into the same framework.
