Abstract

Taxation has served as the basis of US society since its founding, although the philosophies and specifics of its uses have shifted throughout the years. Tax laws and policies underlie important governmental decisions in all sectors, since the utilization of their revenues and exclusions are able to influence the actions taken in society. Therefore, the manuscript written by Reuven Avi-Yonah and Yoseph Edrey is an important document of information to guide students in understanding the fundamental purpose of taxation as well as the way it plays out specifically in the US. In order for this manuscript to accomplish the purpose of teaching students, it needed to be edited for clarity, as it was originally written in Hebrew, as well as fact-checked against the most updated US laws and policies. This work was mainly done by reading through the manuscript, as well as simple research to ensure the policies outlined in the manuscript were still current. As a result, this manuscript will be ready to be sent to the publisher, and eventually used as a teaching resource for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining a fuller appreciation for the importance of taxation. This book does not dive into the specifics of each and every law and policy, however, highlights the influence of general laws and policies in the US. It will be useful as a basis for students to interpret tax law and policies as well as to guide them in creating their own in the future.
