Abstract
My project is on archaeology at a site called Jebel Barkal, which is in modern-day Sudan. It was an important city of ancient Nubia for almost 2000 years (1500 BCE – 300 CE). The American archaeologist George Reisner directed large-scale early excavations at the site from 1916-1920, but he published very little of his results. My research mentor Dr. Geoff Emberling is directing new excavations at the site and he wanted to make Reisner’s field diaries more accessible to researchers and others in Sudan and internationally. He began a project to transcribe the field diaries, and we are now working to put them online through an archival database called Omeka. My part of the project is to work on uploading the information that we have collected on a spreadsheet. We hope that with this work we will be able to build a site that is easy to navigate regardless of what people look up for the entries.
