Abstract

There are many steps authors need to take to produce a creative body of work that gets published in a literary journal, and by extension, the real world. Authors must be prepared to create, revise, and submit many times to get into a fraction of the journals they read. This project is meant to prepare us for our literary journal audience, and what they expect out of written work in terms of quality and content. In the process of sending work out to the journals we researched, we will learn how to become better writers in terms of content specialization. Our methodology consisted of weekly written submissions of the content we specialize in (prose or poetry). We have also done weekly peer reviews of our partners’ work. We read various literary journals in our independent time and added their contents to independent databases. We used such databases to analyze where to send work. By the end of our time together, everyone should get some of their work published in their intended journals, as well as a greater body of creative work in general. Everyone should also have developed strategies for use in their writing careers. Our findings apply to younger authors who hope to get published, to whom our strategies shall supply a model for doing so.
